A Perfume for Each Season

How I Rotate Fragrances Through the Year.

I wore the same perfumes throughout my teenage years and thirties, religiously sticking to J'adore by Dior, Coco Mademoiselle from Chanel, and Chloé, which I added in my mid-twenties.

Of course, I've always loved to smell good, but I never paid much attention to what I wore or bothered to research and study different fragrances and brands.

That changed when I met my husband, who has two great passions: luxury watches and perfumes. Thankfully for my bank account, I still have no interest in watches, but the perfume obsession really grew on me. We now have a dedicated bookcase in our bedroom displaying all our beautifully scented treasures.

It would take too long to review them all, so I will pick my four current favorites and describe how I rotate them through the different seasons.

  • Spring — Bibliothèque, Byredo. The top notes of plum and cinnamon are warm and inviting. As it develops, the scent evolves into a heart of leather and violet that adds complexity, yet still maintains its classic appeal. The base of birch, patchouli and vanilla add a sweet and woody quality that helps round out the scent. Delicate and alluring, like the first rays of sunlight in the blooming springtime.

  • Summer — A’mmare, Carthusia. Bergamot, rosemary, mint and forest woods, this scent screams summer. Aromatic, sometimes pungent, makes me feel sophisticated and unique. Whenever I have it on, no one can resit asking me what perfume I’m wearing.

Autumn — Eyes Closed, Byredo. Cardamom, Cinnamon, Carrot, Ginger, Papyrus and Patchouli. Doesn’t it sounds like the perfect recipe Thanksgiving pie recipe? This is the fragrance of the holidays and all I wanna smell from October to the end of the year.

  • Winter — Soleil Neige, Tom Ford. What better way to turn the page and start the year than by switching to a new perfume? It's finally time for the luxurious and sophisticated Soleil Neige. Bergamot, Turkish rose, jasmine, orange blossom, and musk… simply divine!
